Head and chair of governors named for new Quedgeley academy

The head teacher and the chair of governors for the new Clearwater Academy in Quedgeley have now been announced.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kate Moss, currently Head of School at Hardwicke Parochial Academy will be the head teacher.  She has 13 years’ experience in education, including consultancy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The chair of governors will be Jo Grills, who was previously Director of Education for Gloucestershire Local Authority for 11 years until her retirement. Jo was also previously head teacher of Stroud High School.

Outline plans for the permanent site and surrounding grounds were shared at a public information event attended by about 50 people on Monday (12 June). These plans were being shared with the community in advance of a formal planning application being made in due course. When the new academy is full, it will accommodate 420 pupils aged between 4 and 11. Nursery provision will also be available in due course.

From September, the school will open in temporary accommodation at Hardwicke Parochial Primary School where there will be spaces for up to 60 reception children until the new school has been built. Planning permission for the temporary site has been granted and there has been an initial meeting for parents.

There is a need for schools in Gloucestershire with almost half of schools oversubscribed. Many of these are in Quedgeley, with three primary schools, one junior and a secondary school over crowded in the area.

Head Teacher Designate Kate said: “We are excited to create a school at the heart of the community, one that provides a high quality education, that develops a love of learning and allows each child to flourish.”
