VICAR OF CIRENCESTER with Watermoor and Chesterton
The Rt Revd Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester, seeks to appoint a collaborative and mission minded Vicar of the historic town of Cirencester.
With three churches all within the town, including the ancient and magnificent parish church of St John Baptist which lies at Cirencester’s heart, the parish is served by an enthusiastic team of clergy (including an Associate Vicar) and lay leaders and is seeking a Vicar who will be an able leader and a competent and experienced parish priest in the liberal catholic tradition.
With the confidence to draw people together from different backgrounds and traditions and unite them in worship and mission, you will have the ability to help realise the very significant potential of this strategic parish in the Diocese. Comfortable in your own skin, you will be able to take into account a variety of views and opinions and discern, with others, the priorities for the churches as they seek to reach out to all ages with the good news of the gospel and seek to make Jesus’ offer of ‘life to the full’ (John 10:10) more fully known across the town.
You will need to be comfortable in a variety of settings and able to make full use of the many connections that the Parish Church, in particular, is privileged to serve – including tourists, civic and commerce leaders, musicians, the Royal Agricultural University to name but a few, as well as those who find themselves on the margins of a relatively affluent society.
Cirencester is a rapidly growing market town served by excellent schools, first class amenities and surrounded by beautiful countryside.
For an informal discussion about the role contact the Archdeacon of Cheltenham, the Ven Phil Andrew on 01452 835594 or 07498 052045.
